Add-On Of The Week - Shareaholic

Firefox logoThere are lots of ways to share posts you find online. You can use individual bookmarklets, use all in one bookmarklets such as Onlywire or use the buttons that appear on the posts themselves. One of the methods I am trying is a Firefox extension called Shareaholic. It allows you to share, bookmark and email pages (via Bzzster) from within your browser window.

So far, the add-on supports 21 services, including Delicious, Google Reader, Pownce, Tumblr, Digg, Friendfeed, Mixx, Reddit, StumbleUpon, Twitter, Facebook, MySpace and others. Installing adds a button next to the address bar and some right click menu options. You can configure which services appear in your default list through Shareeholic’s options menu.

I tested it by selecting some text on a page and clicking the button. Then I chose the service I wanted to use and submitted it, adding tags in the appropriate place. I repeated that for four services and it only failed once, with Google Reader. I found it very easy to use.

Another good feature is that you can see how many times the same page has been shared on each service, and there’s a nice set of community links, showing where others have mentioned the site on their blogs. It seems a good way to find more material related to what you’re sharing. I give this Firefox extension a thumbs up.
